Johannes Gutenberg was a goldsmith from Mainz in Germany. In 1448, he began actually creating the invention he had been designing for almost ten years. It was a printing press. Being a goldsmith, Gutenberg decided to use metal. He imprinted letters in metal to press with ink on paper. The first printing press he made was out of a wine press. The paper Johannes used was out of old rags made of linen. He turned a large wooden screw and there were letters printed on his 'paper'! Gutenberg had made the world's first printing press!
